CANCELED - Tasting Seminar: Sherry

While more popular than ever, Sherry is still very much a mystical thing. This fortified wine ranges from a relatively light, perfect-as-an-aperitif “fino" to a viscous, sweet Pedro Ximenez -- with a whole of food friendliness in between. In this 2-hour tasting and seminar, you will taste six styles while exploring their history and production. You will leave understanding why Sherry -- a long-neglected wine -- is now suddenly cool.

Tasting Seminar: Orange Wine

Orange or amber wines are skin fermented whites that have gained rapid popularity recently, appearing on the best wine lists from Copenhagen to San Francisco. And rightfully so; an ancient method of winemaking, skin fermentation not only enhances aroma and texture but also adds a whole other dimension making this category completely distinct. In this two hour seminar, Pamela Busch will lead the tasting of six orange wines from around the world.

Tasting Seminar: Artisanal Ciders

The apple can be expressed into fine cider that pairs beautifully with food. Often these ciders come from producers who are orchard-based, obsessed with particular cultivars of apple, and focused on terroir-driven styles of cider making, like native yeast fermentations and barrel aging. This two hour course will provide the background for and tastings of six such ciders from the West Coast and New England.

Wines of Portugal

Portuguese wines are still very much of a mystery, even to wine enthusiasts and professionals. Yet this small country has a lot of diversity, and the quality continues to improve. In this two hour tasting seminar we will survey the wines throughout the country, exploring both older, revered selections and examples from new - but soon to be star - producers.

Gaymazing Gamay!

Join Vinny Eng for a tasting seminar on Gamay, an epic and eccentric variety that is a favorite of wine enthusiasts yet too often overlooked by shoppers and diners. In fact, it is one of the most versatile of grapes and is found in a diverse array of expressions. Some may even call it gay-mazing!

Our remarkable friend and neighbor, Tartine Bakery, is generously providing a selection of their extraordinary bread for this event. Served with Vella Butter, it is reason enough to raise a glass!
