Registration Policies

All event tickets are will-call. You do not need to bring a printout of your receipt or any other proof of purchase with you to your event. If you are thinking of purchasing a ticket as a gift, we encourage you to consider purchasing a gift card, which can be used towards an event that fits the recipient's schedule. If you purchase a ticket as a gift for someone else, the cancellation policy below will apply.

Cancellation policy: We require at least 7 calendar days' notice for all cancellation requests. We will honor cancellations made at least a week before your scheduled event with a class credit code in the amount of your ticket purchase minus a nonrefundable 4% processing fee. You must contact us to request a cancellation between the hours of 9AM-5PM PT (Monday-Friday) by emailing us at If you wish to move an existing registration from one event to another, it is considered a cancellation of the initial event, and this policy still applies. If you cancel fewer than 7 calendar days before your event, we cannot offer you class credit; however, tickets are transferable and you are welcome to send someone else in your place.

Online class policy: Participating in 18th Street Kitchen Online is a shared honor between the participating students, instructor, and staff. We all receive a glimpse into another's home. 18 Reasons asks all students to be respectful of the information others will share during class. Students who participate in classes assume all responsibility for their ability to participate, including having the appropriate technical equipment and ensuring their own wellbeing in class. Click here to access a helpful guide about how to take an online class with 18 Reasons.

In-person class policy: Please review our Rules for In-Person Events during the COVID-19 Pandemic. These rules draw from guidelines issued by San Francisco Department of Public Health (SFDPH) and the California Division of Occupational Safety and Health (Cal/OSHA) and input from staff and longtime supporters. We may adjust these rules as we learn from our experiences and if directives from SFDPH and Cal/OSHA change. If these guidelines do not fit your needs, please consider our online programs.

Waitlist for a sold-out event: We keep an informal waitlist so that we can notify you by email if a ticket to a sold-out class or event becomes available for purchase on our website. If the event you like is sold out, send us an email at to let us know you'd like to be added to the waitlist. We'll email you if a ticket(s) becomes available for purchase on our website; we do not reserve tickets for people who ask to be on our waitlist.

Accommodation of dietary restrictions: Please contact us about any dietary restrictions or allergies pertinent to the event you're interested in at before you buy your tickets, and we will do our best to accommodate you, if possible. Be aware that we use a shared kitchen, and that allergens could have come into contact with any of our pans, utensils, etc. If you have a severe allergy, take any precautions you would normally take when going out to eat in a shared-use restaurant kitchen, for example.

Youth attendee policy: We welcome youth registrations on a case by case basis, as some classes are more advanced or do not provide a structure that would allow a guardian to fully participate and supervise their child. Our youth policy is that students under 18 must be accompanied by an adult who can be fully responsible for their behavior and their safety. Please email with the event of interest prior to signing up so that we can confirm with the instructor whether class can accommodate younger students. One ticket is good for entry for one person only, so if you’d like to take a class with your child, you need to buy a ticket for the child and a ticket for yourself (or the accompanying adult). Please note that this youth policy does not apply to our tasting seminars (i.e. wine tasting classes), where all students must be at least 21 years old. It also does not apply to our programs designed specifically for youth, like our Teen Culinary Immersion series; youth may attend such programs on their own without an adult. Community Dinner is open to registrations for guests of all ages.

Recording policy: By registering for an 18th Street Kitchen event or 18th Street Kitchen Online event, you consent to photography, audio recording, video recording, and its/their release, publication, exhibition, or reproduction to be used for news, promotional purposes, advertising, inclusion on websites, social media, or any other purpose by 18 Reasons and its affiliates and representatives. 18 Reasons may record and publish online classes that include student interactions, and will replace all visuals of students' kitchens, but will preserve audio. If you wish not to be photographed or recorded, please let an 18 Reasons staff member know upon joining the event on the day of your event.

Other policies:

Class menus are subject to change based on seasonality and ingredient availability.

All classes are subject to cancellation or rescheduling; you will be notified via email about such changes.

Gift card refund policy: All 18 Reasons gift card purchases are non-refundable as of 3 business days after purchase. If you have purchased a gift card and are unable to use it, consider gifting it to a friend or converting your gift card purchase into a donation. We are a nonprofit cooking school, so donations to 18 Reasons are tax-deductible. Contact for next steps to convert your gift card purchase into a donation or requesting a refund. If a refund request is sent within 3 business days or purchase, we can offer a refund, less a nonrefundable 4% payment processing fee.
