September 20th is World Paella Day! Come celebrate with us by making your own paella at home. The government of Valencia chose this date to honor the rice harvest, given that Valencia is the largest rice growing region of Europe, and home to the prized dish of paella! This day hosts various events and activities, such as cooking competitions, festivals and a tables full of paella to be shared with friends and family. Paella is much more than just a regional and traditional dish, it has become a symbol of Spanish cuisine and a unifier of people. It is the perfect time of year to celebrate with a gathering and enjoy rice around the table.
Join Chef Camila as she streams in from Barcelona to host your own paella party! Not only will Paella be the star of the show, you’ll also create a spread of appetizers to whet your guests’ appetite, and a refreshing local cocktail to wash it all down!
MENU
Seafood paella—The Valencians say we should call this "rice with things", as the true paella includes chicken and rabbit, but it's Camila's favorite version, so be it!
Green Salad with Bonito and Camila's Favorite Vinaigrette—The perfect accompaniment to a lush paella, this salad is light but palate pleasing, and the vinaigrette recipe is a keeper
Marinated Olives—An appetizer for paella must be light and appetite-opening, nothing like olives to do so!
Pan con tomate—Yes, bread and rice may seem like carbs on carbs but you will surely want to munch on this Catalan classic as we slowly stir the sofrito and the paella comes together.
Agua de Valencia—A local refreshing orange cocktail, not to be confused with sangría
