Loire Valley, Part II: Chinon + Other Reds
Although the Loire Valley is better known for its white wines, the reds can be equally stunning. The Cabernet Franc from Chinon is unparalleled anywhere else except for Bourgueil, a nearby appellation, and other red grapes, especially Pinot Noir and Cot (Malbec), express themselves in ways that might be unrecognizable to many wine drinkers. Grolleau, Pineau D’Aunis and Gamay from the Loire are all the rage in Paris’s wine bars and are catching on in San Francisco as well.
