A hands-on cooking class culminating in a dinner with wine and beer.

If the idea of cooking Indian food from scratch at home intimidates you, then this class is for you. Learn how to make classic Indian dishes that pack bold flavor, and come together quickly enough to work for weeknight dinner. Together these recipes make a wonderful multi-dish Indian meal, but you can also enjoy them individually as a way to add new flavors to your everyday cooking repertoire. This class will also include an overview of spices and the Indian pantry.

Chapli Kebabs - spiced minced meat patties
Quick Kashmiri Spinach - spinach simmered with tomatoes and spices
Gujrati Dahl
Jheenga Masala - shrimp curry
Carrot Raita - a yogurt dish tempered with spices that can work as a condiment or a side dish
Roop’s Fabulous Jeera Rice - Simran’s mom’s signature rice flavored with cumin (demo)
And a few pre-made accompaniments for the meal: Mint Chutney, Simple Pickled Onions (recipes will be included in class packet)

 

Simran Singh and Stacie Dong are San Francisco moms with a passion for cooking, eating and exploring the world through food. On their blog, A Little Yumminess (www.alittleyum.com), they share recipes from around the world, favorite foodie destinations in the Bay Area and ideas for bringing up adventurous eaters. Throughout the year the run very successful day and week-long “around-the-world” cooking camps and classes for youth aged from K- 12.  They also teach regional Indian and Asian cooking classes at 18 Reasons and other venues around the Bay Area.  They are also regular contributors to the San Jose Mercury News food section, Sunset Magazine’s blog, Bay Area Parent Magazine, and other websites and publications.
