Teach a Community to Fish: A Cooking Matters Fundraiser

We are very excited to announce that Sam Mogannam will relinquish his role as owner of Bi Rite Market - for one night only! - and join us as Chef Sam for a special evening in support of our Cooking Matters program. Sam will take us through his personal culinary journey driven by his passion for bringing people together around great food. In our Cooking Matters program, we teach our students to empower themselves and their families by learning the skills needed to plan, shop for, and cook delicious, healthy, affordable meals. So far in 2016, we've reached over 2,100 low-income adults, teens, and kids in San Francisco and the East Bay. Demand for our program is growing, with more community partners reaching out to us every day.
Over the past five years, we have demonstrated that our program helps families eat more vegetables, cook more at home, and save money at the grocery store. In 2017, we plan to train two new classes of peer educators (community members who teach Cooking Matters classes to their peers), expand our youth programming through partnerships with the San Francisco Unified School District, the Oakland Unified School District, and the YMCA, and hire new staff members to help our program grow.
Two of our recent graduates will join us for dinner to tell us how the program has changed their lives. We hope you can join us at the table.
