Community Dinner: Miso Hot Pot (Second Seating)

Buoyed by the interaction of March 2018's Raclette Party, we designed July's Community Dinner to encourage teamwork and community building over the dining table: Miso Hot Pot. We were inspired by the hot pot meal that many of our Farm School students have enjoyed at Hikari Farms, and thought, "Let's embrace our foggy chilly San Francisco summer with a steaming pot of broth and our delicious, local vegetables!" We are excited to say that this Community Dinner with feature brilliant vegetables from Bi-Rite Farms and the hard work of Layla Aguilar. Saddle up to our communal tables to dip vegetables and noodles into a simmering pot alongside old and new friends.

Layla Aguilar manages the Bi-Rite Family of Businesses’ three-acre farm in Sonoma, CA.  She grew up in Los Angeles and attended UC Santa Cruz, graduating with honors in Women’s Studies. After graduating, Layla spent several years working with children in garden and farm settings before attending the CASFS apprenticeship at UCSC. She worked two seasons as Assistant Miller for Olive to Bottle, the first mobile olive mill in the U.S., spent a season farming in upstate New York, and helped her friend start a family farm in western Virginia. In 2013, she landed back in CA - this time in Sonoma County. The past five years with Bi-Rite Farm has allowed Layla to grow immensely as a farmer, with every day being an exciting new challenge.  Layla enjoys feeding people well, hiking the Sonoma County hills with her dog, and spending her winters looking at seed catalogs.

ABOUT COMMUNITY DINNER

Once a month, we open our doors to friends new and old, welcoming all to our share a table and a delicious meal. Every month is something different, but it's always $15 and always tasty. Wine and beer are for sale at the event. Kids welcome!
