We are excited to announce a new partnership in Oakland! The incredible folks at Im Moment Kaffee will be hosting 18 Reasons East Bay pop-ups in their cozy community space.  We will be teaching hands-on cooking classes, demos and events!

Join Elise to merge together her Japanese and Korean cultures through a plate of dumplings! Together, we’ll mince, mix, and pleat our way through a pan-fried Japanese Gyoza, and a steamed Korean Mandu. The Japanese style pork and ginger gyoza will be an irresistibly juicy and crisp bite, and our tofu and kimchi stuffed Korean mandu will plump up and become extra chewy. Get ready to join the folding party!

Let’s Cook Together!

Im Moment Kaffee is more than just a café; it's a place to pause, relax, and appreciate the beauty of now. Created from the heart of owner, Semret (Semy) Tecle and our family, the café’s food and drinks reflect our family’s rich, multicultural heritage, influenced by German, Eritrean, and Italian traditions. Each dish is a personal creation, perfected with love and attention. We combine German bread with Eritrean spiced fillings and toppings, creating unique offerings. We also make in-house Eritrean honey wine and serve imported Italian Lambrusco, German Riesling, and a selection of German and Eritrean beers. At Im Moment, we strive to create a space where worries and screens are left at the door, where you can truly be in the moment; a space that feels like home—for us and for you.

Born and raised in Colorado, Elise Hayashi grew up in a family where knowing how to use a paring knife was more important than riding a bicycle. This sparked her passion for food and cooking at an early age, and she enthusiastically relocated to the Bay Area to study nutrition science at UC Berkeley. Outside of the classroom, Elise helped implement childhood obesity and exercise research, and worked as a pastry assistant to fill her free time with galettes and mousses. She also broadened her experience with food by studying and cooking her way through the Mediterranean diet in Italy, and working on an organic farm in Japan. Now, she is excited to merge her gastronomic backgrounds, and lean into her Japanese and Korean heratige to share her love of food with the 18 Reasons community. During the rare moments when she is not eating, Elise can be found trying out new sports, playing and listening to live music, or wandering the aisles of grocery stores and farmers' markets.
