A three-course dinner discussion served with wine.

Starting a farm takes guts. And land, dirt, seeds, compost, water, sun, tractors, markets, and, most importantly, cute chicks.

Join 18 Reasons as we welcome Say Hay Farms, a 20-acre farm founded by Chris Hay in 2009. A new crop of young farms has added energy and creativity to the local landscape in recent years, and Say Hay Farms is a proud member of the "Greenhorns" generation.  Growing a variety of vegetables year round, the farm employs highly skilled young people who each aspire to have a farm one day. In addition to row crops, the farm boasts a flock of pasture-raised chickens who fertilize the fields while implementing sophisticated pest management strategies. These lucky birds receive a daily dose of lacto-bacillus fermented grains, herbal tonics, and teas in order to produce the most flavorful of eggs and darkest of yolks.

Our chef, Michelle, has worked with Chris to design a menu featuring seasonal produce and fresh eggs. The Say Hay Farm crew will be on hand to share their stories while we dine together.

The dinner is co-hosted by the Community Alliance with Family Farms, a nonprofit that advocates for California's family farmers and sustainable agriculture. Visit them at www.caff.org.
